They had thought they were winning.

The last horcrux had been destroyed, and everyone was getting on with their lives. Hogwarts was winding down for the year, and the students were getting antsy. They were ready to leave. People were settling back into their lives now that the fear of attack was gone. The Aurors were working on gathering up the last few of the Death Eaters. The wizarding world was at peace, Harry Potter could rest.

Or so he thought.

On May 9th 1998 those still loyal to the Dark Lord, to the man whom was thought to be dead, launched a large scale attack on Hogwarts. The castle, even with it’s magic, couldn’t defend all it’s occupants. Many teachers and students were killed as they tried, but ultimately failed, to protect themselves. The Death Eaters took everyone within the school hostage. And they began sorting out the muggleborn from the half-bloods and pure-bloods. The muggleborn were kept under guard, their wands confiscated from them. The half-bloods and purebloods were not released, but they were allowed their wands. A week later, the Ministry was attacked. And just like Hogwarts, it too was overtaken. A new minister was instated by the Death Eaters, much to the shock and horror of the wizarding population of Britain.

The new Minister was Tom Riddle. He had somehow cheated death.

The dark Lord began to issue order after order. All muggleborns were to be transported to Hogwarts until further notice. All purebloods and halfbloods had to report to the Ministry in order to register. Former Ministry workers had to take oaths to follow the Dark Lord in order to get their job back. And anyone who protested too much, was sent to Hogwarts. It took a few months until the Death Eaters finally released all the muggleborns back into society. But before they did, their wands were taken and broken. And they were forced to have an ID number tattooed upon their arm. Only the most menial of jobs were open to them, and if they wanted to ever gain a wand back, if they ever wanted to practice anything aside from simple, basic spells, they had to prove themselves.

It is now almost one year after the attack upon Hogwarts. The wizarding world as it once was has been destroyed, and everyone are once again getting on with their lives. The school year is winding down for privately tutored students, they’re getting antsy. They’re ready to finish. People are settling back into their lives, the fear of attack however, is constant. The Death Eaters are working on gathering up people who still claim to be in the Order. The wizarding world is changed. And no one can rest.
